About Haithem Slimi & Night Thoughts

"Building systems by day, raising curious minds by night."

Welcome to Night Thoughts.

If you’re here, you’ve probably found yourself staring at a screen at 11 PM, trying to figure out why a distributed system is failing, or wondering if running a 27B parameter LLM locally is actually cheaper than your cloud API bill.

You’re in the right place.

The Story Behind the Name

By day, I work as a Technical Architect and Platform Engineering Lead. My daytime hours are filled with architecture reviews, Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD pipelines, and keeping complex systems running in production. It’s rewarding, but it’s loud.

By night, the world gets quiet. The meetings stop, the Slack notifications fade, and the real deep work begins. Night Thoughts is my digital garden—a place for unfiltered brain dumps, code logs, and reflections on software engineering, system architecture, and the rapidly evolving world of AI.

It’s where I untangle complex topics, test new ideas, and pass down what I’ve learned.

What You’ll Find Here

I don’t write about hype. I write about what actually works in production, the math behind the magic, and the philosophical shifts happening in our industry.

My writing focuses on three main pillars:

  • 🧠 Pragmatic AI & LLMs: Deep dives into RAG, multi-agent orchestration, and the real economics of Local AI vs. Cloud APIs. (Spoiler: Local AI isn't "free," and I'll show you the math).
  • 🏗️ System Architecture & Platform Engineering: Battle-tested patterns for building scalable, resilient systems. Thoughts on cloud modernization, infrastructure as code, and designing for failure.
  • 💡 Engineering Philosophy: Reflections on the craft of software engineering. What does it mean to be a developer in the age of AI? How do we maintain code quality when machines can write the boilerplate?

Who Am I?

I’m Haithem Slimi, a Technical Architect based in the cloud infrastructure space. I’ve spent my career designing platforms, modernizing legacy applications, and building the pipes that keep data flowing securely.

Outside of architecture diagrams and terminal windows, I am a father of two. Raising curious kids keeps me grounded and constantly reminds me of the importance of asking "Why?" and "How does this actually work?"—which, coincidentally, are the exact same questions that make for good software engineering.

Let’s Connect

I love talking about system design, AI infrastructure, and the future of our profession. If you read a post and want to debate the break-even point of local LLMs, or just want to say hello:

Thanks for stopping by. Pull up a chair, grab a coffee (or tea), and let's build something.
